We challenged both AIs with three distinct scenes—a bustling city street, a vibrant blossom landscape, and a serene forest—using the same input images and prompts to ensure a fair evaluation.
Scene 1: Bustling City Street
In this dynamic urban setting, the differences were immediately clear.
Prompt:Replace the background with the bustling Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo, with dense crowds, flashing neon lights, and a modern atmosphere.

Dream Image produced a highly detailed and energetic background, truly capturing the feeling of a crowded street. However, the lighting on the subject feels slightly separate from the neon environment, making the integration less seamless.
GPT-4o excelled at integrating the subject with realistic lighting that appears to reflect the ambient glow of the city. The trade-off is that its background, while fitting, is less detailed and dynamic than Dream Image's version.
Scene 2: Vibrant Blossom Landscape
This test highlighted the tools' different artistic priorities.
Prompt:Replace the background with Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto during peak cherry blossom season, with a profusion of pink cherry blossoms like clouds, and the ancient temple buildings in the distance.

Dream Image created a stunningly beautiful and colorful landscape, delivering a background with immense visual impact. Its weakness was altering the subject's original, warm backlighting, making the composite feel less authentic.
GPT-4o skillfully preserved the subject’s original lighting, blending her beautifully into the new scene for a more natural look. However, the background itself is less dramatic and picturesque compared to Dream Image’s artistic interpretation.
Scene 3: Serene Forest Path
The forest scene tested the AIs' ability to handle natural, filtered light.
Prompt:Replace the background with a serene bamboo forest path, with sunlight filtering through the bamboo leaves creating dappled light and shadow, evoking a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere.

Dream Image generated a lush, immersive forest background. Its attempt to add dappled light onto the subject, however, looked somewhat artificial, like a simple overlay rather than true light interaction.
GPT-4o once again provided a more realistic light blend, adding subtle shadows and color tones that made the subject feel genuinely present in the forest. The background itself was slightly more open and less dense than Dream Image’s.
Conclusion: The Right Tool for the Right Job
Neither tool is universally "better"—they simply excel in different areas.
Choose Dream Image for maximum artistic impact. It's ideal when you want a spectacular, detailed background, even if it requires minor adjustments to the subject's lighting later.
